Electric Breast Pump Hire

All groups have electric breast pumps for hire. Prices are $10 per week for Australian Breastfeeding Association subscribers and $20 per week for non-subscribers. Due to health reasons we are not permitted to hire milk collection kits. Therefore, each mother needs to purchase her own milk collection kit when hiring a pump. These are available from the breast pump hire person in each group. Prices are approximately $40 for a single kit and $55 for a double kit. A deposit of $50 is refundable upon return of the pump in very good condition.

Library

Some groups have a Library box full of interesting and informative books, videos and tapes to be borrowed. Borrowing is free for subscribers (a small fee of 50 cents per book applies to non-subscribers).

You can access the library at the Hambledon House meetings. We have a selection of books and videos about all aspects of breastfeeding, from correct attachment, expressing and storing breastmilk, returning to work and breastfeeding, or on more intellectual facets of feeding, such as the politics of breastfeeding or the history and inner workings of breasts. They also have a variety of books about parenting and even food allergy in children. You will find these books both informative and interesting.

Breasfeeding Helpline

The Australian Breastfeeding Association provides a Breastfeeding Helpline 7 days a week around Australia. Call 1800 mum2mum (1800 686 2 686).

The counsellor you speak to has breastfed her own children and undergone a period of extensive training and assessment before qualifying. All counsellors are volunteers and provide their time to support mothers to breastfeed. In the Far North Queensland area we have counsellors who have personally experienced a wide range of breastfeeding and parenting situations including premmie babies, breastfeeding and working, tandem feeding, feeding older babies and more.

You will find a range of Mothers Direct products on display and for sale at most meetings. These include books, booklets, lambskins, baby slings and many other quality baby products and mothering aids.
